As per the complaint obtained by CNN, comedian and late-night host Trevor Noah has filed a lawsuit against his doctor and a New York City hospital, alleging that their negligence caused him to “suffer permanent, severe, and grievous injuries.”

Noah claims that the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) and Dr. Riley J. Williams III misdiagnosed his illness and condition, failed to refer him to specialists with the necessary skill and training to treat his illness, and negligently performed exams and surgery.

According to the complaint, he also claims that they failed to provide appropriate medical treatment and obtain proper and informed consent for treatment.

“HSS received a complaint filed on behalf of Mr. Trevor Noah,” said a spokesperson for HSS in a statement to CNN.

The statement reads, “We have shared with Mr. Noah’s attorney a detailed rebuttal to the claims, which are without merit.” “We are prohibited by law from discussing publicly specific aspects of any patient’s treatment due to HIPAA.”

Noah’s injury and surgery were not described in detail in the complaint.

Noah received treatment from HSS and Williams III between August 25, 2020, and December 17, 2020, according to the legal complaint, including surgery on November 23, 2020.

Noah “suffered severe and painful personal injuries, suffered severe nervous shock, mental anguish, severe emotional distress, and great physical pain” during that time, according to the complaint.

Noah was “confined to bed and home for a long period; was compelled to undergo hospital and medical aid,” according to the complaint, which caused him “loss of enjoyment of life” and prevented him from working for a long time.

Because some of his injuries are permanent, the complaint states that he will continue to suffer similar damages in the future.

Dr. Riley J. Williams III was contacted by CNN and referred to HSS’s media relations department. Williams does not appear to have an attorney, according to CNN.
